FAQ
Other attorneys have free consultations. Why do you charge for consultation?
Not all consultations are the same. We charge for a consultation because during a consultation you get at least an hour of attorney time focused on the details of your case and life. You get a full legal analysis of your situation and options. We will ensure that you fully understand your rights and options as well as why that is the situation.
We value your time and offer virtual consultations that you can join from any confidential space at a time convenient to you, saving travel time and risk.
If we are able to move forward with your case, you will receive a credit for 100% of the consultation fee.
Immigration law is complicated and each case is as unique as you and your life. A full consultation is the only way to ensure that we are accurately quoting you a price based on the work your case requires.
At the end of your consultation you can expect to have received a full explanation of your options and any roadblocks, likelihood of success and if you are able to file a case, a quote for the legal fees associated with your case.
Who can be in my consultation? Can my aunt/friend/pastor be in my consultation?
Your consultation is confidential. In order to maintain attorney/client confidentiality we MUST have a consultation only with the person whose case it is. The exceptions are for spouse cases and detained cases. We MUST have both spouses in the consultation because the case involves both partners. For cases where someone is detained, we can sometimes speak initially with a family member who is not detained. We will always speak directly with the detainee as part of the consultation, however.
We cannot have extra people in the consultation because it destroys confidentiality and confuses the issues in the case.
Can you review my forms? I have filled them out and just want them reviewed before I submit them.
No. Either we have a full consultation and we take your whole case or you file it fully on your own. Our malpractice insurance does not allow us and it would be unethical for us to review forms and give assurances about work we have not done.
We do offer second opinions but not forms review.
Can I schedule one consultation for my brother and I? We have the same case.
No. Each consultation is for one person. Each person’s life and case is unique and must be evaluated separately. We cannot evaluate more than one case per consultation.
Will I actually work with the attorney I consult with? Will my attorney change?
You will work with either Sarah or Hannah, the two attorneys with our firm. We work together as a team, so depending on your case needs, you may work with only one or both attorneys. You will also work with our highly qualified and dependable team.
When will I get my work permit/ green card or other benefit?
We suggest checking current processing times at https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ for the most updated processing times. Processing times are outside of our control. If there in an emergency in your case, our firm may be able to assist with an expedite request.
Do you take pro bono cases?
Yes, but since we are not supported by any grants or other sources of revenue, only a limited number from trusted referral sources.
If you need reduced fee or pro bono resources, we recommend the following local organizations:
